Few words about:
The best and most beautiful cavalry in the world.
Polish and Lithuanian military formation famous in the entire Europe and the world.
It achieved most prominent successes from the beginning of XVI century till the end of XVII century. In those times of turmoil when it was to serve, Husaria did not suffer a single defeat within 120 years, winning the battles with Moscovian, Swedish, Tatar and Turkish armies (among others).
It defeated even many times more numerous enemy.
Husaria, equiped with 5-6 metre long lances, shields, wild animal skin (from leopard, tiger, lynx, bear and wolf) and above all characteristic wings, attacked in full gallop.
Husaria’s attack meant for its opponent incrediby terrifying sight and usually the last battle, and as for the objective observer, it was gorgeus and amazing, as shown in chronicles and accounts of international observers of “battle of Vienna”.
Major victories were gained at:
Orsza 1514, over the Russian/ Moscovian army
Obertyn 1531, over Moldavian army
Cutrea de Argesz 1600, over Wallachian army
Kokenhausen 1601, over Swedish army

Intresting bits:
Over 100 years - the longest period without defeat
Husaria won victories over even 5 times more numerous opponent.
Kircholm - many mercenaries joined into the Swedish army on the condition that they would not have to fight with already well known hussar cavalry. Consequently, Swedish command had to increase the soldier’s pay considerably when it occured that they actually would have to encounter Husaria.
In the battle majority of Swedes died- their losses reaching approx. 7000 soldiers, in contrast to the 100 [sic!] cavalrymen- 13 winged hussars.
1621- Chocim- 8000 hussars - biggest number of hussars on the battlefield.
1683 Vienna- allied Austrian and German armies decelerated the attack in order to admire the Hussar charging at Turkish army
Hussar sabre (szabla) - weapon considered by many as the best combat sabre in history
How did the coffee get into Vienna?
As a legend suggests, after the victory of the armies lead by John III Sobieski in the battle of Vienne, in the camp of the defeated Turkish army several sacks with coffee beans were found. Its action was discovered by Jerzy Kulczycki, who also fought in the battle, and who later on opened the first café in Vienna.
